Story

Hersey was born in Pimlico, the daughter of William and Elizabeth. She was baptised at St Peter’s Church, Eaton Square on 10th October 1838. Her father was a Revenue Officer. Hersey worked for the Post Office firstly as a clerk and later as a supervisor. By 1871, she was living with her widowed sister Elizabeth Boys who ran a lodging house in Chelsea. Hersey retired in 1898 and continued to live in Chelsea until her sister’s death in 1903. She moved to Worthing, living at “Valetta” in Harrow Road. Hersey died on 22nd September 1904. Probate was granted on 17th October to Edward James Gibson solicitor. Effects £695 4s 5d.
