Life story

Life story

Herbert Hart was born in Hudson, Staffordshire, he was baptised there on 21st December 1859. Herbert was the son of Joseph Hart, 50yrs, draper, and Maria, 40yrs, schoolmistress; he was the youngest of at least 6 children. Herbert began his working life as an assistant draper in Worcester where the family had moved, then he became a dealer in fancy goods and continued in this trade until his retirement.

Herbert, 26yrs, married Blanche Emily Cosser, 25yrs, on 16th June 1886 at St. Mary, Kilburn, Camden, her father was also a dealer in fancy goods. They had a son, Harold Ravenhill Hart, baptised on 3rd February 1889, at St. Paul's, Haringey, a daughter, Florence Lillian, baptised in October 1891, died in infancy.

Herbert moved his family many times in the Middlesex area, from Haringey to Stoke Newington, then to Hornsey, and at some point, after 1921 to Worthing, Sussex, where they lived at a property called Pulborough, in Wykeham Road.

Herbert was widowed when Blanche died in 1931, and 5 years later, Herbert died on 2nd September 1936, aged 76yrs. Probate was granted to his son, Harold Ravenhill Hart, wholesale dealer in fancy goods, effects £10628 11s 11d. Value 2022 - £800K.
