Life story

Life story

Henry was born in Walworth, Surrey the son of Charles Swalwell Williams and his wife Anna. He was baptised at St Mary's Church, Islington on 4th November 1829. Henry's mother died in 1847 and his father in 1852. Henry trained as a commercial clerk working for a fire insurance company. He married Mary Josephine Holmes at St Martin in the Fields church on 21st December 1854. The couple lived in Penge for a while, before moving to Hackney. Mary died in March 1878 and was buried in Abbey Park Cemetery, Hackney. Henry married again on 7th September 1885. His wife was Alice Maud Mary Rawlings, a young widow with two children. Henry retired and the family moved back to Penge. In 1893, Henry and Alice moved to Worthing, living at "Strathglass" in Manor Road. Henry died on 11th October 1899. Probate was granted to Alice Maud Mary Williams widow. Effects £900 2s 6d (approx £70354 in 2020).
