Life story

Life story

Henry John Rogers was born on 9th September 1867 in Mile End, Middlesex, he was baptised there on 17th November 1867. Henry was the son of James John Rogers, 47yrs, Timekeeper at an India Rubber Factory, and Mary A. Martha, 47yrs, nee Neville, he was the youngest of at least 10 children.

In 1893, aged 25yrs, Henry was living in Dulwich and was employed as a schoolmaster. On 31st July 1893 he married a schoolmistress, Laura Emily Howes, 26yrs, at St. Sepulchre, Holborn, they had a son, Howard Neville, in 1895.

Laura and her husband continued their careers as schoolteachers in the Wandsworth area of London, and by 1921 they were both Head teachers.

Laura and John retired to Worthing, Sussex, living at 14, St. Valerie Road, where John died, aged 69yrs, on 20th October 1936.

Probate was granted to his widow, effects £4112 9s 0d. Value 2023 - £371,800.
