Story

Henry was born in Warminghurst, the son of Henry, a shoemaker and Mary. He was baptised at Warminghurst on 5 April 1818. By 1841, Henry was working at The Vicarage, Findon as a gardener. On 27 December 1845, he married Ellen Clements at Arundel. Ellen was a servant in Maltravers Street. The couple moved to Worthing, living at Offington. They had six children, William Henry, Ellen, Fanny, Lucy, Lewis and Mary Jane.  Ellen died in 1859 and the following year, Henry married Mary Lawrence at Broadwater church on 11 November. The family moved to Washington for a while before returning to Worthing to live in Heene. Henry and Mary had five children, Amy, Charles Lawrence, Faith Minnie, Alice and Florence.  Henry worked for the Heene Estate Company as a gardener. In 1890, he went to court three times as children were vandalising his garden, stealing geese, eggs and straw. Henry died in November 1892. No probate.
