Life story

Life story

Henry was born in Huyton, a district of Liverpool. His father Charles worked as a labourer in a brewery and his mother was a laundress. The family took in lodgers to supplement their income. By 1871, Mary was a widow with four sons. As a young man, Henry worked as a groom graduating to coachman. On 30th September 1883, Henry married Mary Harrison at St Catherine's Church, Edgehill in Liverpool. Their daughter Annie was born on 16th July 1884 in Wavertree, Liverpool. By 1891, Henry's work took the family to Wales and then on to Oxford by 1901. In 1905, Annie was living in Heene, Worthing at Cissbury Court, Mill Road. She married James Ernest Harris at Heene Church on 26th December of that year. James was a college servant at Oxford. Three days after the wedding, Henry died of a heart attack at Cissbury Court. No probate.

Mary Fryer, James and Annie Harris all returned to Oxford where Mary worked as a housekeeper.
