Life story

Harriet Rowley was born in Bilston, Staffordshire, on 12th February 1858, to James Rowley, 25yrs, an Ironworker, and Charlotte nee Morris, 22yrs. When Harriet was 13yrs old in 1871, she was the eldest of 7 children, James 12, Mary 10, Maria 7, Charlotte 3, and twins, Sarah and Joseph, 8 months, the family now live in Warrington, Lancashire. Harriet lived with her father and siblings after the death of her mother in 1877. In 1891 Harriet was living in London, she was a Weslyan Mission Worker. She married London born, John Dodsworth, 49yrs, in Tonbridge, Kent, in 1894, she was 36yrs. Her husband was a Printer and Stationer, he owned a Letter Press business with his brother Benjamin in St. George Street, East London. They had a daughter, Mabel Harriet, in 1886, and by 1911, they had moved to 63, Richmond Road, Worthing. Harriet was widowed in 1922, she continued to live in Richmond Road until her death in 1948, aged 91yrs. She died on 18th August, at 22, Downview Road, the home of her daughter, Mabel, to whom she left estate of £617 12s 10d. Value 2019 - £22K.
