Life story

Life story

Harriet was born in Bloomsbury, the daughter of William Peter and Harriett. She was baptised at St Peter's Church, Camden on 10th September 1846. Her father was a barrister. She grew up living with her family in Woburn Place, Bloomsbury. On 3rd April 1872, Harriet married Rev. Charles James Thompson at St George's Church, Bloomsbury. At the time Charles was Diocesan Inspector of Schools. In 1875, the couple moved to Cardiff where Charles had been appointed Vicar of St John's Church. They had no children but adopted a girl Elizabeth. They stayed in South Wales until retirement in 1905 when they moved to Worthing. Charles and Harriet lived at "St John's" Rugby Road before moving to "Rudham" in Rowlands Road. Charles died on 7th March 1909. Harriet moved to Cissbury Road, living with her sister Sophia. She died at "West View" 32 Heene Road, Worthing on 30th April 1919. Probate was granted on 20th June to Lily Peake wife of Maurice Henry Peake and Alfred Hugh Knight solicitor. Effects £9338 15s 4d.
