Life story

Hannah Oughton was born in 1826 in Coventry, Warwickshire, she was 1 of 7 children, her parents were Joseph Oughton, 30yrs, Weaver, and Mary, 35yrs, nee Riddington, Filler. (A Filler in the textile trade filled the bobbins in the mills).

In 1859 Hannah, 32yrs, married Joseph Bonell in Birmingham, he was a railway coach painter, aged 22yrs, and in 1861 they lived in Lichfield, Staffordshire, with their first daughter, Edith. 3 more children were born in Birmingham, Thomas 1862, Eliza 1865, and Dorothea 1866.

By 1871 Joseph had been promoted to foreman, and the family were living in Swindon, and in 1881, he was a railway superintendent in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

Hannah was widowed in 1883 when Joseph died aged 46yrs. She was living with her son, Thomas, in Middlesex, in 1891, and in 1901 she was in Guildford, Surrey, with her unmarried daughter, Dottie.

By 1911 Hannah, 84yrs, had moved to Worthing, Sussex, where she was living at Pengwern, Heene Road, with her daughters, Edith, a widow, and Dot, 45yrs, single. Hannah died on 12th January 1916, aged 89yrs, administration was granted to her son, Thomas Henry Mahadoo  Bonell, Captain R.E., effects £191 9s 11d. Value 2022 - £17,700.
