Gertrude Jane Pegg was born in 1878 in Holborn London to William Joseph and Georgina Pegg. William joseph worked as a Manager of a Tailoring Establishment.
In 1881, Gertrude is living with her family at 4 Albert Villas Highgate, Hornsey, London. In 1891 the family have moved to 1 South Cottage, Wimbledon Common, Wimbledon Surrey. In 1901 the family are living at Woodcock Lodge Wimbledon, Surrey, Gertrude's Father, William is a Master Tailor. By 1911 Gertrude has left home and is working as a Sick Nurse for Elizabeth Onslow at 3 Courtfield Road, Kensington, Middlesex

Around 1927 Gertrude came to Worthing, possibly because her Mother was already living in Worthing. Gertrude was a registered nurse and became a voluntary Sister at Worthing Hospital in 1927. She was also the hospital's Librarian, and the main organiser for the hospital's Pound Day appeal. The Pound Days were organised to raise money for people who couldn't afford hospital care, in the days before the NHS. People would attend fetes and pay a pound or donate items to sell. In 1939 she was living on her own at 23 St Michaels Road Worthing
She was living at 19a Crescent Road Worthing Sussex in 1966, when she died at 22 Mill Road Worthing. She left £6252 (£110,000 in 2020) with probate to Midland Bank (Executor and Trustee company.
