Life story

Gertrude Eleanor Burnays was born in Old Charlton Kent in 1858 she was the daughter of Edwin Arthur Burnays of London and Eleanor Jane Irvine of Shoreham Sussex. Her parents married at St Marks, Kennington on Nov 8, 1851 and had six children Henry Arthur 1852, Herbert Leopold 1854, Edward Irvine 1856, Gertrude Eleanor 1858, Frances Irvine 1860 and Charles Edwin 1862. The children were born in Old Charlton Kent except the last-born Charles Edwin as they were living in Pembrokeshire when he was born. Gertrude's father worked as a Civil Engineer for the Admiralty. Gertrude lived at home with her parents until she marries aged 22 to Frederick Hire a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy. Her brother Henry Arthur moves to Moscow Russia and his children are born in Moscow. Henry dies in Bad Homburg in Germany on 8th July 1913. Her Brother Herbert Leopold becomes a Practicing Doctor and dies in 1902 in Kent. Edward becomes an Accountants clerk and dies aged 25 in Portsea. Frances Irvine marries in Chatham Kent 6 months after Gertrude marries there and lives in Kent with her family and dies in Hertfordshire aged 65 Brother Charles Edwin moved to Australia and was an Engineer and Patent Attorney, he dies in 1920 in Queensland Australia.
