Life story

Life story

Gertrude Mabel Crump was born in July 1887 in Camberwell, London. She was the daughter of William Thomas Crump, 35yrs, Commercial Traveller, Confectionery, and Louisa Ann, 26yrs, nee Dale; she had 3 siblings, William John b.1881, Dorothy b.1882, and Gladys b.1890.

Her father's occupation as commercial traveller meant that the family moved from West Ham, Essex to Hastings, Sussex, then back to London where in 1911, Gertrude was employed as a mother's help in Forest Hill, for the Hallifax family. Gertrude never married, she joined her parents in Worthing at some point after 1911. After William died in 1917, his widow and daughter moved to 9 Browning Road. By the time of her death Gladys and her mother were living at 64 St Lawrence Avenue, Worthing, the home of Percival Fells and his wife Dorothy nee Crump. Gertrude died on 19th February 1939. No probate.
