Life story

Georgina was born in 1852 Midlothian Scotland to William and Eliza Gilbert. Georgina's Father worked as a Grocer and Draper and in 1861 the family were living at 1 Clewer Lane, Oxford Road, Clewer, Windsor. 

Georgina married William Pegg on the 10th May 1876 in New Windsor, Berkshire. They had 6 children

Born 1877 Windsor Berkshire died 28th May 1916 Belgium. He married Rachel in Winnipeg, Canada. He was Sergeant 3rd Division, training, Canadian Army Service Corp. Was killed in action on 28th May 1916. He is buried at Poperinghe New Military Cemetery.

By 1910 the family have moved to 44 Queen Victoria Street London, but are also living in Worthing at Egerton Lodge, Elm Grove, Worthing, Sussex. It was here that William died on the 31st December 1910. He left £1746 15s 2d (approx. £136488 in 2020) to Georgina his wife. Georgina died in Worthing in 1928, she was living at Blenheim, St Michaels Road, Worthing. She left £202 6s 8d (approx. £8300 in 2020) with probate to Gertrude Jane Pegg and Ernest Marlborough Pegg (her Children)

28/5/1916 - Tubby Clayton (Talbot House)

"In the early summer of 1916, boastful of the beauty of the garden, we put up a notice saying : 'Come into the garden and forget about the war', and almost the first acceptance of the invitation was intimated by arrival of a 5.9 which blew sideways into the House, mortally wounding a Canadian who had come in with his brother to write a joint letter home."

The Canadian in question was Sgt. G. Pegg, aged 39 years. He was killed on 28 May 1916 and is buried on Poperinghe New Military Cemetery. His headstone bears the inscription: "He fought his good fight …"

Queen’s South Africa, 4 clasps, Transvaal, Laing’s Nek, Cape Colony, South Africa 1901 (3376 Pte. G. J. M. Pegg Vol. Co. K.R.R.C.), good very fine £150-200 GILBERT JOSEPH MARTIN PEGG volunteered for short service with the King’s Royal Rifles and served in South Africa with the 1st Special Service Company. He was discharged in June 1901. After emigrating to Manitoba, he enlisted in January 1915, serving with the Canadian Army Service Corps. He was killed by shell fire south of Bussebom, Belgium, on 28 May 1916 and is buried in the Poperinghe New Military Cemetery. (With copied research.)
