The name Christopher Teesdale on George's stone possibly relates to his grandson Christopher Ralph Teesdale, son of Ralph Edgar Teesdale. He was born in 1900 and joined the Royal Marines on 1st Oct 1918. He died in Brighton in 1934.

Life story

Life story

George was born in Rowlands Castle, Hampshire, the son of Christopher and Sarah. He was baptised at Chalton on 8th February 1807. On 25th December 1828, he married Sarah Upfold at St Nicholas Church, Brighton. By 1841, the couple and their children were living in Field Row, Worthing. George was a "flyman" running a one horse, two wheeled carriage for hire. The family had moved to Chapel Street (later Portland Road) by 1851. In 1859, George took over the running of The Nelson Inn in South Street. but the licence was withdrawn two years later and he went back to being a fly proprietor. The family moved to New Street where George died in July 1879. He was buried at Heene on 10th July. No Probate.
