Life story

George was born in Masborough, Kimberworth, Yorkshire, the son of John and Mary Ann. He was baptised in Rotherham on 11 January 1860. George's father was a publican and slater. He ran "The Traveller's Rest" in Masborough. Mary Ann died in 1867 and John married again. George was employed by the Midland Railway as a clerk but also did work for his father. On 17th January 1883, George married Louisa Jane Loader at All Saints Church in Penninghame, Wigtown, Scotland. Louisa was employed as a governess at Penninghame House. By 1891, the couple were living in Ipswich with their children Arthur and Charlotte. George was working as a railway goods agent and travelling all over the country. Over the next ten years, three more children were added to the family, Marion, Louisa and Reginald. By 1901, George had moved the family back north to Heaton Moor in Lancashire. By 1926, the family had moved to Worthing, living at "Melgarth" in Wallace Avenue (later 28). George died there on 22 December 1930.
