Life story

George Tayler Hadwen was born on 18th March 1821, he was baptised at St. Mary, Islington, on 25th May 1821. He was the son of Isaac Hadwen, 43yrs, Merchant, and Ann Jefferies Tayler, 38yrs, and had 3 siblings, Isaac b.1811, Ann b.1814, and Charles b. 1817.

As an adult, George was employed as a Merchant's Clerk, continuing this career until retirement.

On 21st September 1857, George, 36yrs, married Elizabeth Sarah Ewens, 20yrs, at St. Clement Danes, Westminster, London, they lived in Liverpool, Lancashire, and their daughter, Agnes, was born there in 1858. A second daughter, Caroline Bertha, was born in 1863 but sadly died the following year.

At some point the family returned to Islington, and in the early 1890s they moved to Worthing, Sussex, living at Tabasco, Rowlands Road. On the 1901 census George was registered as totally blind.

George died on 13th June 1917, aged 96yrs. Probate was granted to his widow, Elizabeth, effects £4870 13s 10d. Value 2023 - £432,350.
