Obituary

Bath Chronicle and Weekly Gazette 29th May 1926

The death occurred on Friday of last week in Worthing, from heart failure following an operation, of the Rev. George Henry Butler, a former chaplain to the Bath Union. Mr Butler who was 70 had held numerous appointments during the 46 years that he had been in Holy Orders. He was ordained in Nova Scotia and it is of special interest to note that he became rector of Chester, Nova Scotia, the parish to which he went as a curate immediately after ordination. He subsequently held other livings in the Dominion of Canada including Eagle head and Port Medway. Mr Butler was Chaplain to the Bath Union from 1917 to 1922 and was succeeded by the present chaplain the Rev. Leonard Haxell . Mrs Butler survives him; at Sunday service, the Rev. Haxell intends to pay a suitable tribute to his predecessor’s memory.
