Life story

Life story

George was born in Newdigate, Surrey, the son of William and Mary. He was baptised at St Peter's Church, Newdigate on 28th September 1845. George's father worked on a local farm. By 1861, the family had moved to Dorking and George had found work as a groom. He graduated to coachman and worked all over the country. On 16th May 1886, George married Gertrude Page at St Stephen's Church, East  Twickenham. Their daughter Alice was born the following year. By 1901, George and Gertrude were living in Worthing. George worked as a general servant and jobbing gardener. They moved to Milton Street before 1911. George died in November 1912 and was buried at Heene on 26th November. No probate.

Gertrude married William Goddard in 1914. She died in March 1927 and is also buried at Heene.
