Life story

Life story

George was born in Ferring, Sussex, the son of George and Leah. By 1841, the family were living in Angmering where George worked as a shoemaker. On 11th June 1848, George married Ann Naldrett at St Nicholas church, Brighton. The couple moved to Worthing, lodging in New Town, now Clifton Road. They had no children. By 1861, George and Ann were living in Chapel Road, Worthing before moving to Broadwater Street next to the baker's shop. George died on 21st August 1879. No probate.

Ann is remembered on George's stone. She was born in Pulborough, Sussex, the daughter of Charles and Ann. She was baptised at Pulborough on 9th October 1825. In 1841, she was listed as a servant in the house of Harriet Cragg in Lower Street, Pulborough. After George died, Ann moved to 90 High Street, Worthing working as an ironer. Her relative Charles Naldrett lived there and worked as a stableman. By 1891, she was living at 20 Anglesea Street, Worthing working as a laundress. Ann died on 5th June 1891 in Ealing, Middlesex. She had relatives in the area. She was buried in Ealing cemetery.
