Death
NAVY. Capt. Frederick Hire, retired, died on the 27th ult. Idlehurst, Worthing, aged 65. Capt. Hire became Navigating Sub-Lieutenant March 11, 1866, and was promoted to Navigating Lieutenant April 24, 1872, serving in that rank in the Euryalus during the Egyptian War, 1882 (medal and bronze star). Two years later, during the naval and military operations in the Eastern Soudan, he acted as Harbourmaster at Suakin, and for his services was promoted to Staff Commander, with seniority May 20, 1884 (clasp). He became Staff Captain March 25, 1898 and retired with the rank of Captain Sept. of the following year. Capt. Hire last served as Harbourmaster of the Hamoaze.

Staff-Captain Frederick Hire, of Dcvonport Dockyard, was medically surveyed at the Royal Naval Hospital, Plymouth, and found unfit for further active service. He is fifty-four years of age and served thirty-three years commissioned officer.
