Frances Mary Burrough was born in 1862 in Kirkham, Lancashire. She was the eldest child of the Reverend John Burrough, 31yrs, Clergyman, C. of E., and Headmaster of Kirkham Grammar School, and Marianne, 30yrs, nee Siddons, aka Mary Ann. Frances had 6 siblings, Edward b.1864, John b.1866, Thomas b.1868, Margaret Amy b.1874, Catherine b.1877, and George b.1880.
When Frances was about 10yrs old, her father moved the family to Hilborough, Norfolk, where he was appointed Rector of Hilborough, a position he remained in until his death in 1902. At 18yrs of age, Frances began her career as a governess, her first position was in Derbyshire. Twenty years later, in 1901, Frances was unmarried and living in a home for governesses in Harley Street London.
At about this time, she suffered 3 bereavements, her mother died in 1901, her father in 1902, and her sister, Margaret Amy, in 1903, aged 28yrs. Frances was granted probate of her father's estate, approx. £490K. 2022 value.
At some point, Frances moved to Worthing, living at 98, Rowlands Road; she died at the Myrtles Nursing Home, Farncombe Road, on 25th December 1927, aged 65yrs. Probate was granted to Alfred William Lightbody, solicitor, effects £2188 6s 5d. Value 2022 - £146,450.
