Also of Alice Isabella Archer born February 26th 1853 died April 5th 1940 Life storyLife storyFrances was one of three sisters who lived together all their lives and are buried together. She was born in Soho, the daughter of Thomas and Frances and baptised at St Anne's church, Soho on 31st August 1843. Her father was a master currier working in the leather trade making fringes for seats in carriages. He was also an upholsterer with a large factory in Long Acre employing about 80 people. By 1871, Thomas was a widower living with his three daughters, Frances, Alice Isabella (known as Isabella) and Harriett. Although still in business, by 1891, Thomas and his daughters moved to Worthing, living in Lansdowne Road. In 1905, Thomas's factory was destroyed by fire in February. He died on 2nd August the same year and was buried in Camden. By this time, the family had moved to "Rolden" in Winchester Road, Worthing. After their father's death, they moved to "Kai Terri" in Rowlands Road. The first of the three sisters to die was Harriett on 30th May 1915. Frances died at 52 Rowlands Road on 1st December 1923. Alice died on 5th April 1940. Probate was granted on 13th February 1924 to Alice Isabella Archer spinster. Effects £1390 3s 5d. Note: Thomas Archer was head of Hyde, Archer and Co of Long Acre. He started his business as a currier dealing with horse hair and using it to stuff carriage seats. The company developed into carriage upholstery and trimmings.
