Life story

Life story

Florence was born in Wembley, daughter of Rev. John Edward Gray and Susanna Eliza. She was baptised by her father at Holy Innocents Church, Kingsbury on 27th August 1837. Florence was sent to a private school at Monken Hadley in Hertfordshire. On 10th January 1861, she married Rev. Edward Bower Whyley at St John the Evangelist Church, Wembley. Her husband was headmaster of King's School, Peterborough. In 1875, the couple moved to Great Easton in Leicestershire where Edward had been appointed vicar. (For further details of his career, see Edward Bower Whyley). When Edward retired, he and Florence moved to Worthing, living at "Wembley" in Downview Road. Edward died in 1903 and Florence lived at "Wembley" until she died on 20th February 1912. Probate was granted on 19th April to Kythe Louisa Haslegrove widow (sister) and Sir Richard Melvill Beachcroft, Knight. Effects £16947 15s 1d.
