Life story

Life story

Florence was born in Marylebone, Middlesex, the daughter of Henry Edward Swift and his wife Sarah nee House. Her father was a stockbroker working at The Stock Exchange in the city. Florence was baptised at St Marylebone church on 19th July 1849. She had an older brother Horace and a sister Janet. Horace later followed his father into the stockbroking business. The family moved around the London area on a regular basis. Sarah's sister Mary Bluett came to live with them after she was widowed. Florence never married and stayed with her parents until they died. Sarah passed away in 1892 and Henry in January 1898. Florence lived with her sister Janet now Mrs Brunton for a time. By 1911, Florence was a visitor to Worthing and eventually moved into "Ferniehurst" on the corner of Crescent Road and Shelley Road. She died at Teralta Nursing Home in Church Walk, Worthing on 17th May 1928. Probate was granted on 28th August to Westminster Bank Limited. Effects £3577 2s 7d. Re-Sworn £3608 15s 10d. The Last Will and Testament for Florence Swift was dated 5th March 1928.
