Life story

Life story

Flora was born in the village of Tortington, Sussex, daughter of George and Caroline. She was baptised there on 27 Apr 1890. Her father was a railway signalman based at Ford Junction. In 1910, Flora married Archibald Percy Luff at New Fishbourne on 4 Oct. The following year they had a son Edward but sadly he died the same year. The couple were living in Worthing by then in a cottage on the north side of the railway line in Tarring. By 1915, they had moved to 2 Elm Grove where their daughter Doris Flora was born on 19 Dec. The same year, Percy enlisted in the Royal Garrison Army, serving in France in 1916. He was discharged in 1919. Flora died on 30 Dec 1919 of pulmonary tuberculosis. No probate. Archibald remarried in 1921.
