Life story

Eveline, known as Evie was born in Wimborne, Dorset, the daughter of Thomas and Jane. She was baptised at Wimborne Minster on 16th July 1873. Thomas was a wine and spirit importer. As a young woman, Eveline worked as a school governess. On 2nd November 1907, she married Alfred Cecil Bailey at St James church, Exeter. Alfred was an estate agent and auctioneer from Lichfield in Staffordshire. For a while the couple lived with Alfred's parents in Fordingbridge, Hants before moving to Worthing. They lived at "Thornbury" 5 Ripley Road and Alfred set up an estate agency in a shop opposite West Worthing Station. Eveline died on 6th February 1923. Probate was granted on 7th April to Elton Gerald Laing and Alfred Cecil Bailey auctioneers. Effects £1034 1s 8d.

Alfred remarried in 1924 and died in Graylingwell Mental Hospital, Chichester in 1926. He was buried beside Eveline at Heene.
