Life story

Life story

Evans was a family name carried through several generations. Evans George Easton was born in Wandsworth and baptised at St Mary's church, Battersea on 31st August 1862. His father Evans William was a builder who died at the young age of 33 in November 1871. Evans' mother Mary Elizabeth moved the family to Eastbourne after her husband's death, setting up as a lodging house keeper. Evans was apprenticed to a cabinet maker but left the business and worked as a commercial traveller in the bicycle trade selling lubricating oils. His travels took him as far as Ireland where he joined a Freemason's Lodge at Ballymacarrett in County Down. On 22nd January 1906, Evans married Ada Mortimer at St Mary's church, Elland in Yorkshire. The couple moved to Brockley in Kent where their son Evans Cyril William was born in 1907. A year later the family were in Richmond, Surrey where a daughter Marion Eva was born. By 1911, the family were living in Worthing at 4 Millview Villas in Church Walk. In 1914, they moved to 70 Rowlands Road. Evans died in Worthing Hospital on 15th January 1922. probate was granted on 15th February to Ada Easton widow and Thomas Reed retired commercial traveller. Effects £385 16s 11d.

Evans Cyril William Easton emigrated to Australia in 1923. He is buried in a cemetery in South Australia. Marion also went to Australia as a nurse, married and died there aged 103 in 2011.
