Ethel Emily Turner was one of Seven children born to James Hedgman Turner and Katherine Steele Avery
Both parents were born in London and they were married in 1855 in St Pancras at The Old Church.
All seven children were born in various locations in London. Kate 1860, Lucy 1863, Charles 1866, Mary 1868, Ethel Emily 1873, Beatrice 1874, Stanley 1876.
Ethel's mother worked as a tobacconist when her parents met, and her father worked as a Law Clerk.
By 1881 the family had settled in Warwick Street in Worthing and were working as Tobacconists.
Over the years when the children were young, they were often found to be living with their grandparents.
Ethel Emily had started a promising career as an operatic Artiste and became quite popular in Worthing. Ethel had taken a stage name of Ethel Home and in 1899 had become very ill after a long serious Illness. Sympathies were written in the Local Worthing Herald in January wishing her a speedy recovery. But Ethel was not to recover and on February 14th died of Intestinal Nephritis and Exhaustion. Interstitial nephritis is a kidney disorder in which the spaces between the kidney tubules become swollen (inflamed). This can cause problems with the way your kidneys work. Ethel was 26 years old when she died, and on the 18th February was laid to rest at Heene Cemetery.
