Life story

Life story

Emily was born in Marylebone, the daughter of George and Susannah. She was baptised at St Mary the Virgin church, Widdington, Essex on 22nd July 1883. Her father was a retired barrister. The family lived in a large house on Dartmouth Park Hill in Marylebone (now flats). By 1913, the family had moved to Worthing, living at "Floriana" in Downview Road. George Hollis died on 25th January 1919 and later in the year on 29th November, Emily married Frederick Bernard Wood at Heene church. The couple moved to Sevenoaks in Kent where their daughter Marian Elisabeth was born in 1920. A son, Francis Bernard was born in 1923. By 1939, the family were living in Rickmansworth. Francis was killed in Italy in 1943. At the time, Frederick and Emily were living in Bexhill-on-Sea. Frederick died in Bexhill in 1952 and Emily moved to Sewell's farm in Barcombe, Sussex. She died on 10th November 1971 and was buried with her parents at Heene. Probate was granted on 11 January 1972 at Brighton. Effects £31284.
