Life story

Life story

Emily was born in Penzance, Cornwall, the daughter of William and Mary. She was baptised as Emilia at St Mary, Penzance on 29 May 1835. Her father was a currier. Emily learned the skills of a dressmaker and by 1861 she was an assistant to a woollen draper in Bristol. In 1862, Emily married Joshua Wormald White at St Gabriel's Church, Pimlico on 15 Mar. He was a warehouseman in the haberdashery business and in 1870 was granted the Freedom of the City of London. The couple had four children and lived in Hampstead. Joshua died suddenly at the High Cliff Hotel, Margate on 24 Jun 1894. In 1906, Emily and two of her daughters moved to Worthing, living in Ripley Road. Emily's son George died in South Africa in 1907. Emily died on 27 Jan 1914. Probate was granted on 4 Apr to Emily Wormald White spinster. Effects £93 4s 2d.
