Life story

Emily Annie Webster was born in Holkham, Norfolk, in 1829, she was the daughter of John Webster, Gentleman. On March 19th, 1853, Emily married George William Guest, 23yrs, at St. Mary, Islington. George was a student at St. John's College, Cambridge University, studying for the priesthood, he was ordained at Chester Cathedral in 1855. George and Emily had no children. George was a Curate at Salford and Derwent before being appointed Vicar Choral of York Cathedral in 1862. George was also Rector at All Saints, York, 1864-1881, before moving to Lymm, Cheshire, in 1881 where he remained until 1897. George and Emily then moved to Worthing, Sussex; they lived at The Sycamores, Byron Road, where George died, aged 70yrs, on 5th May 1901. Emily remained in Worthing, and she died three years later, on 14th February 1904, aged 76yrs. Probate was granted to George McLeod Firman, Esq., and Ernest William Bennet, solicitor, effects £4838 4s 7d. Value 2021 - £603K.
