Life story

Elsie Clara Ashling was born in Worthing in 1886, she was baptised at Heene on 2nd May. Her father, Arthur Ashling, 26yrs, was a Builder and Contractor, her mother, Emily Harriett, 25yrs, nee Short. Elsie had an older sister, Ruby, 2yrs, her sister, Mabel Violet, was born in 1891 and her brother, Leonard Arthur, was born in 1898. In 1891 the family lived at 14, Milton Street, Worthing and by 1901 they had moved to Karos, Rowlands Road, Worthing. In 1911, Elsie was 25yrs old and worked as a Domestic Help, as did her sister, Mabel, 21yrs, they still lived with their parents and brother, Leonard, 13yrs, in Rowlands Road. She remained unmarried and in 1918 was manager of a Fancy Leather Goods business. Elsie Clara Ashling died on 17th November 1918 at 23, Rowlands Road, Worthing, aged 32yrs. Her death certificate gave the cause of death as - (1) Influenza, (2) Acute Lobar Pneumonia.
