Life story

Ellen Lydia Vaughan was born in Hodnet, Shropshire, she was baptised on 12th November 1843. Her parents were, Canon Edward Thomas Vaughan, 30yrs, and Mary, 27yrs, nee Rose; she had 5 siblings, Mary Agnes b.1840, Lucy Alice b.1849, Edward Thomas Rose b.1851, Mary Rose b.1852, and Charles Edwyn b.1854.

Ellen appears to have spent most of her life living with her parents, she was unmarried. When her father retired in 1896, she moved with them to Worthing, Sussex, living in Richmond Road. Her father died in 1900 and her mother in 1901. In 1911, Ellen was living in Belsize Road, Worthing, and she moved again at some point to Winchester Road, where she died, aged 84yrs, on 6th January 1927. Probate was granted on 22nd February to Frederick George Simpkinson, solicitor, and Bernard Hadow, farmer. Effects £8928 3s 11d.
