Ella Mager was baptised on 30th December 1860 at Droxford, Hampshire. She was the daughter of Tobias Mager, 38yrs, Draper and Grocer, and Helena, 37yrs, nee Simpson. She had 5 siblings, Catherine b.1852, Frederick b.1855, Charles b.1857, Jesse b.1859, and Albert b. 1865.
In 1871, their father had changed careers and become a licensed victualler, he was landlord of The White House Inn in Droxford and after a few years, Ella's father moved the family to Kingston-on-Thames where he became the landlord of The Barley Mow in Mill Street; he died there in January 1880 and in 1881 her mother had moved, with Catherine, Frederick and Ella, to Worthing, Sussex, where she traded as a grocer in Montague Street, assisted by Frederick.
In 1891, aged 40yrs, and unmarried, Ella was living at 4, Victoria Terrace, (later 114, Marine Parade) where she assisted in running a lodging house, with her older sister, Catherine, 48yrs, also single. They continued this business for many years, both living at the property until their deaths.
Catherine died in 1929, and 2 years later, on 17th August 1931, aged 70yrs, Ella died at Box Hill, Dorking, Surrey. Probate was granted to Albert Edgar Mager, commercial traveller, and Henry Hewitt Lambert, solicitor, effects £1889 13s 8d. Value 2022 - £ 137K.
