Elizabeth was born in Ringwood, Hampshire in 1850. Her father, William Ghrimes, was an upholsterer and her mother was Fanny.
In 1851 the Ghrimes family was living in Christchurch Street, Ringwood, father William an Upholsterer's Assistant. They had one House Servant.
In 1861 the Ghrimes family was living in High Street, Ringwood. Father William now an Upholsterer. Elizabeth was the eldest of 3 children.
There was an established Furniture Store in Ringwood, William A Ghrimes and Co., and there are also Ghrimes and Champion, Auctioneers and Estate Agents, in the area.
She lived in Ringwood until she married John Tilbury, a nurseryman, in 1879.
The 1881 Census shows John and Elizabeth living at the 'Graperies', in Broadwater. However, John died in 1883 in Crescent Road, Worthing, aged 46 leaving Elizabeth with a son, John William, and just over £3,000.
Mother and son lived at 44, Gratwicke Road, Broadwater, for a while but had moved back to Ringwood by 1901and by 1911 to Brighton. Elizabeth died on 19 December 1934. A probate announcement could not be found.
