John Carey was a Wesleyan minister. The Wesleyan religion was formed in 1843 in New York by a group of ministers that split from the Methodist Episcopal church. Local churches are organised into a network of districts with equal representation of clergy at their annual conferences. Ministers are then appointed to various stations at these conferences. John was appointed to various stations which meant the family moved houses several times-

Elizabeth remained a spinster and continued to live with her parents. Her Father died in 1884 in Worthing and Elizabeth and her two siblings, John and Christina who also didn't marry remained living with their Mother at 15 West Buildings Worthing. Their Mother died in 1894 and Elizabeth and her two siblings moved to Hill Crest, Manor Road Worthing.
Elizabeth died on 8th February 1912 in Worthing, she left £1145 (£89,000 today), with the administration to Caroline Bennett
