Life story

Life story

Elizabeth was born in Little Bowden, Northants, the daughter of George Henry Knapp Fisher and his wife Elisabeth. She was baptised in Market Harborough on 13th March 1857. George was a solicitor and in 1865, he moved the family to London. On 9th May 1878, Elizabeth married Rev. Frederick William Goodacre at St Mark's Church, St Johns Wood (sadly destroyed by fire in January 2023). Frederick had recently been appointed vicar of North Collingham in Nottinghamshire and the couple settled in the vicarage. Frederick was 20 years older than his wife and they had no children. The couple lived in North Collingham until Frederick's retirement when they moved to the village of Ashby Parva in Leicestershire. Frederick died here on 15th April 1919 and left an estate of c£15k (approx £614k today). Elizabeth stayed on in Ashby Parva until 1924, when she moved to Worthing, living at 12 Winchester Road. Her sisters Marian and Edith moved to Worthing in 1939. Elizabeth died on 5th May 1947 and was buried with her sister Edith. Probate was granted on 31st July to Algernon Fisher and Charles Reginald de Mester Fisher, members of London Stock Exchange. Effects £6035 17s 5d.

Note: The artist John Knapp-Fisher is the grand nephew of the Fisher sisters.
