Story

Eliza was born in Marylebone, the daughter of Richard and Sophia. She was baptised at St Marylebone church on 19th January 1862. Her father was a cricket bat maker running his own business. Richard died on 15th August 1887 and by then his son also called Richard, had taken over the business. Eliza’s sister Elizabeth was mentally disabled and was cared for by her family. She died in 1904. From 1906 until 1909, Eliza lived with her sister Charlotte in Hampstead. They stayed together for the rest of their lives. By 1911, the sisters were living in Slinfold, Sussex along with their brother Alfred, an architect. From 1915 until about 1920, they lived at “The Pines” Cootham, Pulborough. By the time of her death, Eliza was living at “Monkwood” 79 Heene Road, Worthing with Charlotte. She died on 12th May 1929. Probate was granted on 13th July to Charlotte Allen spinster. Effects £4319 15s 5d.
