Life story

Life story

Eleanor was born in Kensington, daughter of William and Ann Elizabeth. Her father was a jeweller. Eleanor's family name was Ellen. On 18th March 1873, she married John Cooper in Kensington. Her son John William was born in 1874, followed by Ernest Alfred in 1875, Arthur in 1877 and Harold in 1880. Three girls followed, Eleanor, Edith and Frances. The family lived and worked in Hammersmith, then moved to Margate, on to Hornsey, Leatherhead then Bexhill. Eleanor's son Arthur was killed on The Somme in 1916. He is remembered om his parents grave. In 1929, John and Eleanor were living at 102 Rowlands Road, Worthing. Eleanor died at Hopedene Nursing Home, Wordsworth Road, Worthing on 29th March 1929. Probate was granted on 28th May 1929 to Frances Peverill Cooper spinster. Effects £1059 10s 4d (approx £48K in 2020).
