Edward Harold Steevens was born in Somerset in 1865*, he was baptised on January 18th, 1865, at St. James, Taunton. He was the son of George Sutton Steevens, 44yrs, Cabinet Maker, and Charlotte, 30yrs, nee Locke. He had 5 siblings, Sydney b.1858, Charles b.1860, George b.1861, Clara b.1863, and Annie b.1866.
Edward's father was a cabinet maker and upholsterer and Edward and his older brother, Sydney, both trained as upholsterers, Edward then became a salesman of furniture and upholstery products. When he was in his twenties, the family moved from Taunton to Kensington in London and after his father's death Edward remained living with his mother and youngest sister, Annie, an artist. In 1901 they were living in Camden Town, both Edward and Annie remained single.
Edward was living at 1, St. Lawrence Road, Kensington, in 1906/1908, and in 1910 he was at 11, Gordon Road, Ealing, Middlesex. He died, aged 45yrs, on 22nd April 1910, at Littlecot Nursing Home, 5, Queen's Road, Worthing, Sussex. The death certificate gave his cause of death as 'Fibroid Lung, Failure of Right Heart'. His occupation was stated as 'Upholsterer's Manager', his sister, Annie, was present at the death.
Probate was granted to Sydney George Steevens, fruiterer's buyer, effects £1681 17s 5d.
