Edith Elizabeth Oakeshott was born on 25th August 1865 in Winchester; her parents were William Oakshott, 49yrs, an artist and photographer, and Fanny Charlotte Fitzroy, 38yrs, nee Berridge. She had 3 siblings, William b.1856, Alice Louise b.1858, and Frank b..1861. In 1864, both her brothers tragically died.

Edith never married, she appeared to have no occupation, she lived with her family in Winchester until the death of her father in 1882, and then moved to Worthing with her widowed mother and sister Alice. They lived at The Priory, Heene, where her mother died in 1917, and Alice later died on 1st February 1933, aged 75yrs, in Findon. Edith lived until she was 97yrs old, she died on 24th September 1961, her address was given as 3a, Lower Quay, Fareham, Hampshire. Probate was granted to Margaret Joan Wood Tovey, widow, and Edward Charles Pyle, solicitors managing clerk. Effects £7479 19s 2d. Value 2021 - £170K.
