Life story

Dorothea was born in Camden Town, the daughter of James Frederick and Clara Louisa. She was baptised at St Matthew's Church, Ipswich on 23rd April 1843. Her father was an artist who died in May 1844. Clara and her daughter moved in with Clara's father John Cuffley who lived in Ipswich. As a young woman, Dorothea earned an income as a governess. Her mother's family came from Cheshire and this is where Dorothea spent most of her life. She died at Seabrook Nursing Home in Queen's Road, Worthing on 22nd March 1912. Probate was granted on 30th April 1912 to Hannah Maria Heighway ( wife of Thomas Heighway, her cousin). Effects £376 10s 1d.
