Life story

Life story

Charlotte was born in Marylebone, the daughter of Richard and Sophia. She was baptised at St Marylebone church on 3rd September 1865.

Her father was a cricket bat maker running his own business. Richard died on 15th August 1887 and his business was taken over by his son, also called Richard.

Charlotte's elder sister Elizabeth was mentally disabled and was looked after by the family. She died in 1904.

From 1906 until 1909, Charlotte lived with her sister Eliza in Hampstead and by 1911, they had moved to Slinfold in Sussex, living with their brother Alfred who was an architect. From 1915 until about 1920, the sisters were living at "The Pines" Cootham, Pulborough.

They moved to Worthing about 1929, living at "Monkwood" 79 Heene Road. Eliza died here in 1929. Charlotte continued to live here, later joined by her brother Alfred, now retired. "Monkwood" was now 147 Heene Road after re-numbering by the council.

Charlotte died on 22nd January 1946. Her will was published in the Worthing Gazette on 9th August. Effects £9748 15s 9d. Alfred died in Southsea in 1962.
