Life story

Life story

Charles John Hawker was born on the 1st October, 1902 in Worthing, Sussex. His father was retired Captain Edmund Bulteel Hawker of the Royal Sussex Regiment who was born in Plymouth and based at Chichester Barracks in 1901. His mother was Emilie Berly Schlesinger from London. Charles died of immaturity and Cardiac Asthenia on 22nd October, 1902 at 'Longleigh' St Boltoph's Road, Heene aged just 3 weeks and was buried at Heene Cemetery the following day. Charles had a brother, James who was born on 12th November 1899. James served as a major in the army and was killed in action at Ypres on 4th June 1940.

Note Emilie Hawker was a tennis player who competed at Wimbledon in 1906 and 1907/
