Life story

Life story

Charles was born in Carnmoney, County Antrim, Ireland, on 17 April 1849, to Robert Gibson and Agnes (nee Guthrie). He married Emma Anthony on 18 March 1882. The records agree on the date but differ as to where. The marriage could have taken place at the Presbyterian Church, Carnmoney, or in Roorkee, Bengal, India. where Charles was serving in the Royal Engineers. It is true that their first child, Florence Eleanor, was born and baptised in Roorkee, at the end of 1882. He and Emma had returned to England by 1911 and were living at Kinbrae, Browning Road, Worthing. However, they had moved to 3, Wordsworth Road, by 1921, which is where Charles died in 1936. His effects were finally calculated as £1100 17s 6d

left to Florence Eleanor, now married to Arthur Cozens.
