Catherine was of French descent on both parents side. Her grandparents were born in France but came to England when young, married here and died here. Catherine was the daughter of Henry Grellier a bookbinder and Anna Maria nee Shin. She was baptised at St Anne’s church, Soho on 2nd December 1837. She was the fourth of ten children born the year Queen Victoria came to the throne. She outlived the Queen by 30 years dying at the age of 93. Catherine lived with her parents and did not marry. She spent some time as a governess. By 1911, she had moved to Worthing, living at “Betchworth” in Belsize Road with her sister Phoebe. Catherine died on 20th April 1932. Probate was granted on 15 June 1932 to Phoebe Grellier spinster. Effects £2612 15s 6d.
