Life story

Life story

Caroline was born in Westminster, Middlesex, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Fowler. She was baptised at St Marylebone Church on 21st September 1806. On 5th April 1826, Caroline married Richard Lea Cocks at Holy Trinity Church, Gosport. Her parents were witnesses and signed the register. Richard was a surgeon. He died on 15th May 1834 after a long illness. The following year, Caroline married Charles Philips Williams, a lieutenant, at All Saints Church in Southampton on 1st July. Their daughter Louisa Harriet Caroline was born on 2nd June 1840 in Portsmouth. She was baptised at St Thomas's Church in the city. From 1841 until 1871, Charles is not mentioned in census returns. He was in the Land Transport Corps and was possibly abroad most of the time. His pension payments stopped in 1877 and Caroline is listed as a widow in the 1881 census. Caroline and her daughter lived in St Helier, Jersey for nearly twenty years. In 1868, Louisa Williams married John Augustine Parkes in Paris on 24th February. Caroline was a witness and signed the register. Mother and daughter were in London in 1871. Louisa died in London on 9th February 1878. By 1881, Caroline was lodging in Grafton Road, Worthing. She died on 12th April 1887. No probate.
