Life story

Life story

Caroline Guile was born in October 1857 and she was baptised at Heene on November 1st. Her parents were Reuben 30 yrs., an Agricultural Labourer and Lucy 35 yrs. In 1861 the family were living at 9, Little Heene, Worthing. Caroline was 4 yrs. old and she had 4 sisters, Ellen 14, Harriet 10, Emily 7 and Martha 2 months. In 1863 another sister, Clara, was born, 2 of her siblings died in infancy. Caroline married Frederick Searle in Brighton, Sussex on September 30th, 1877. By 1891 they had had 5 children, Frederick 14, Charles 10, Fanny 8, Harry 5 and Kate 2. The family lived at 100, High Street, Worthing where Frederick, 34 yrs. was a Marine Store Dealer. Caroline died, aged 35 yrs., on 11th May 1893, at Heene Road, Worthing. Her death certificate gave the cause of death as "Anaemia debility, Thrombosis of Cardiac Veins, 3 days, Embolism of cerebral vessels, 3 days, Paralysis, Syncope."
