Life story

Life story

Caroline was born in Ware, the daughter of Arthur and Caroline. She was baptised at St Mary the Virgin, Ware on 1 Sep 1847. Her father, an ironmonger died towards the end of the year. Caroline's mother moved to St Albans where she worked as a dressmaker. In 1858 she married again. Her new husband was George Marshall, an engineer. Caroline trained as a teacher and moved to London. In 1876, she married William Iredale Akers at Holy Trinity, Newington on 23 Dec. The couple had no children. After living in Islington and Camberwell, the couple moved to Worthing in 1909, living at Akerdene, Belsize Road. William died in 1912. Caroline died at Caer Gwent Nursing Home, Wykeham Road on 25 Sep 1916. Probate was granted on 13 Dec to Henry Herbert Akers and Arthur William Wells gentlemen. Effects £3552 8s 10d (approx. £210K in 2020).
