Life story

Beatrice Massey Jocelyn was born in 1877 in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire. Her parents were, George Henry Jocelyn (also Josling), 38yrs, Wine Merchant, and Rosetta, 40yrs, nee Armstrong; she had 5 siblings, Mary R. b.1870, William A. b.1872, Ada F. b.1875, Katherine E. b.1876, and John b.1874.

Beatrice lived with her family for most of her life, she never married and did not appear to have an occupation. Her father retired when she was 13yrs, and the family moved from Bishop's Stortford to Hatfield, Essex, and then to Writtle, Essex. Her mother died in 1909 and her father in 1916.

Beatrice had an aunt, Catherine Massey, and cousins who lived in Worthing, Sussex, and at some point, she too, moved to Worthing, living at Karos, Rowlands Road, where she died on 9th January 1929, aged 51yrs. Probate was granted to Mary Rosetta Jocelyn, spinster, effects £2220 19s. Value 2021 - £144K.
